Grace To The Almighty

Posted: November 30, 2009 in Tenderly

I have heard of all kinds of measures recently of how we will fight to bring an end to Domestic Violence. I got my own ideas. I think that we can make it easier for victims to seek support and that we can so help them that they will never be permanently scarred and therefore no new abusers are made.  I heard a lady recently pointing out the need to be supportive of the perpetrators, well I am saying support them before they start perpetrating.

Grace To The Almighty

God give me strength, how can I

Resist getting into a plane, to be nigh

At her side through all the disdain

Comfort my baby Lord and quell her pain

Enough was enough and you Lord showed her the way

To give up on “the things that make people stay..

One of the things that I realize, looking back”

The perpetrators of abuse may have themselves been
attacked

How like a cycle it is, this dark cloud

Endless screams for help though seldom out loud

And how children born into abusive homes soon are

Like their abusers, inflicting on new victims an ugly
scar

Menacing and permanent if these victims have no belief

In the Almighty to take away all their grief

God I appeal for help to all injured parties

Help them all before they succumb to their injuries

Teach the futile relationships the time to turn away

Yet those struggling aimlessly, protect them while they
stay

Behind Every Dark Cloud

Posted: November 30, 2009 in Tenderly

Sometimes we have to face very traumatic circumstances to put a halt to future problems. One of us is sacrificed so that hundreds maybe thousands can be saved later. The one lady rose from her ashes and started an organization that will SAVE many of us later. Her mother is proud of her but we as a nation acknowledge her greatness and though we have not saluted her effort by making and ambassador like we did so hastily with others, we applaud her effort and hope we can reap the many rewards of a more peaceful Barbados and bring an end to Domestic Violence.

Behind Every Dark Cloud

Brutal verbal and physical abuse

Emotionally cripple still they try to seduce

Have no regards for what they put you through

It’s hard to break from the promise of saying I do

No more, no more can you take

Deep in your heart you start to ache

Eyes puffy from all the tears

Vicious bruises that covered you all the years

Every one of them would eventually go away

Regardless to their might they never knew how to stay

Your bruised soul though doesn’t easily mend

Damage is more permanent but thank God He is a friend

And through His love you can finally leave

Repairs He starts and soon you no longer grieve

Keeps you strong and opens your eyes

Comforts you from the pain and the lies

Leaving was hard but the Lord showed you, you had to go

Opened the way to teach others what you now know

Under His guidance you survived that others may too

Domestic Violence was a dark cloud but behind it was you

Pleas Teacher

Posted: November 30, 2009 in Best Wishes

The local newspaper recently confused and used the word pleads when they should have written pleas. The title of this poem is to highlight that teachers have the control on students from day one if they would set the tempo. Nowadays, students use all kinds of excuses including legal actions against their teachers to up their grades.

Pleas Teacher

Pupils have a way of annoying you

Learning little, trying nothing, so what do we do

Educate them to your max, foregoing all

And training them new ways to have a ball

Sugar coating the complex, taking it apart

They count on you to the extend the kindness of your
heart

Every class is the same except for a few

And when you find that class, its generally because of
you

Cause children are the reflection of discipline adults
impart

How they respond to you is measured on you from the
start

Exert your best, give them your all and stick to the
righteous way

Reward will be realized tomorrow but for now have a Happy
Birthday!

A Happy Birthday Barbados

Posted: November 30, 2009 in Events and Premieres

The Forty Third Independence of Barbados is celebrated on November 30, 2009 having previously attained our Independence from Britain in 1966 on that date. The Rt. Hon. Errol Walton Barrow was the then Prime Minister and is considered the father of Independence in Barbados for the pivotal role he played in achieving this milestone in the island’s history. To honor “Dipper” Barbados has made him a national hero, named a park after him, a roundabout, put his face on the $50 bill, erected a statue of him in Independence Square and recently named the Creative Arms building at the University after him. We can scarcely celebrate Independence Day with out thinking of Dipper. But for many reasons this island is great and for this I say Happy Birthday!

A Happy Birthday Barbados

After some forty three
years

Hoorays and celebrative
cheers

Alternate Governments with
a changing head

Proletariats and
aristocrats who were peacefully led

Proudly we can rise before
other nations to stand and say

Yes we thrived
independently and we are better off today

Bajans rehearse your chorus
and strike up your song

In plenty sing, and in time
of need when this fair land was young

Rejoice my brothers and
sisters it’s a festive day

There’s much delight past
and present that in a big way

Has made life in the island
a paradise

Days of novel wonders and
nights just as nice

An area symbolized by the
flag with blue sea,
golden sands and blue sky

You can go to interesting
attractions that catch the eye

Beautiful people and places,
with scrumptious things to eat

An anthem that’s with
emphatic pride sung by even the man in the street

Refrains in Calypsos for
national concerns and social commentary

Bajans’ greatness reflected
in our Pride and Industry

And recently all the world celebrated
our son and daughter too

Doing their best in
entertaining and on their World Athletics debut

Our Island
presents many chances for the success of all of us

So in appreciation I want
to extend the wish for

The Sciences In The Jars

Posted: November 28, 2009 in Ossie Moore Jokes

Ossie Moore jokes have taken us into the classroom regularly and every one still brings a smile to our faces when we learn of Ossie’s blundering innocents. I wasn’t sure if this one was good for a general audience but my mother acted as censor and approved it. I welcome your comments and invite you to enjoy another of these Bajan jokes.

The Sciences In The Jars

Teacher had a special experiment that day

He brought four jars and held four worms at bay

Experiments were customary but none were like this

Science was suddenly taking a pleasing twist

Come young scientists, he said, observe with me

I have placed mud in jar 4 and in jars 1 to 3

Ethanol in the first, smoke in the second and sperm in
the third

Now you can all repeat for me what you have just heard

Class in unison were able to say

Everyone was paying attention that day

So the teacher said here is what I will do

I’ll place a worm in each of the 3 and in the 4th
jar too

Now I will cover them and overnight they will stay

Then we‘ll see what happens when we return in one day

He left them there and the class was dismissed

Everyone returned and observed and here is the gist

Jars 1 to 3 the worms died but not in jar 4

And the teacher looked around the class and stopped at
Ossie Moore

Right Ossie what do you deduce, speak in your own terms

Sir “As long as ya drink, smoke, and have sex, ya
won’t have nuh worms!”

Our Joyous Night

Posted: November 28, 2009 in Best Wishes

A special birthday wish to an old friend, I hope that it finds her in good condition. I saw her in a distance only, actually on the screen, and if we could judge from appearance then I know that she is doing very well. Yet, nothing can be more reassuring than hearing directly from some people. I wish her VERY Happy Birthday and continued successes

Our Joyous Night

On jumping up from a restless sleep

Use only nature’s sounds to get back deep

Rest your head down and listen to the sound

Joy asked once and now there’s no disturbance around

Once none of the ills return to cause despair

You can listen then and soon you will hear

Outside agreeable sounds are across the pasture

Use these heavenly lulls, the orchestra from nature

Sounds created by the Almighty, sounds past and present

Now the developed ear entrusted in you is current

Is there that you can use nature to hush any regret

Giving calm when sleep was rudely upset

Have no fear or concern the Lord with His might

Takes a gentle exhale, blows away despair, gives Our
Joyous Night

A Ride In The Park

Posted: November 28, 2009 in Ossie Moore Jokes

This Ossie Moore joke reminds me of my first day on a bicycle, actually riding on my own. I rode and celebrated that I could do so many of the stunts that I thought was going to require years of riding. Once you get to understand the whole balancing thing then the rest only takes for nerves. I did everything I had the nerves for, just like Ossie, but I didn’t have the luxury of an audience.

A Ride In The Park

Around Ossie rode in the Park and when he came about

Riding without legs on the pedals to his mother he’d
shout

I cuh do this mum, look nah feet!

Dear be careful and watch out, don’t go in the street

Enjoying it all he returned riding with only one hand

I cuh do this too, look mum, I is a one hand man!

Now be careful, his mum said, but dah is good

Then he went around again and like the boys from the
hood

He had both hands off and shouted, look no hands mum!

Even though his mother was troubled she didn’t succumb

Pedal around Ossie just one last time

And Ossie took longer and returned off the bicycle with
a mime

Ready now dear? But why yah tek sah long and why yah on
yah feet?

Kaput was the bicycle, Ossie, in impaired tone said “luk
mum nuh t’eet”

The Birthday Party

Posted: November 28, 2009 in Ossie Moore Jokes

Of all the Ossie Moore jokes I found so far this one made me laugh the loudest. I think though that some understand of Bajan culture and expressions should be understood. If you do not get a good belly laugh from this one or you didn’t understand it, drop me a note and I’ll try to explain it. I am not the authority on Bajan things but this one I think I understood.

The Birthday Party

This fellow was stumbling outside a rum shop

He was drunk and disorderly and Ossie begged him to stop

Everyone else out there was cheering him on

But Ossie was not amused and wanted them gone

It was the fellow’s birthday and he wanted to celebrate

Rum and coke was the cheapest drink and it tasted great

They encourage the fellow with an old Irish song

He enjoyed the attention and with them sung along

Do wid a drunken sailor, what do yah do?

And then he told Ossie , now you join in too

Young chap, tell me, how old do you think I am today

Proud he appears younger, he was shock by what Ossie had
to say

And how you manage’ to guest correct that I was 48

Real easy sir, cause uh de ruckus you does create

Tek my bruddah, sometimes he is a real nut

Yah see I figuh my bruddah is 24 and he is half-uh-idiot!

I can’t start to think what you might be feeling right now. The kind of pain that you are going through, no one should ever have to go through. All the expressions of people’s sympathy never seem to take away the pain. On thing for sure, God is the only real strength during these times and I’m glad that you have already turned to Him for solace. The following is an acrostic that came to me when I was praying for comfort to you.

Jamaala Fagon

Jewels once spangled in these eyes

And now through a tragic demise

My grief came in the same eyes blink

Accident killed two and two at the brink

A prayer Lord for solace to those behind

Lord peace to my friends’ souls and to mind

And those who are still in pain

Father be with them that they may rise again

Accident with an unlicensed driver is a troubling fate

Grave destruction to kind souls from a would be inmate

One man’s abuse of the law destroying many

Now I ache with pain and the tears in these eyes are plenty

The Culture We Need

Posted: November 27, 2009 in Events and Premieres

To all our American friends Happy Thanksgiving! To all others, Happy Thanks giving too!. It is only now I realize that although I had posted these sentiments to friends I didn’t put them up on the website. I now share them with you, not on the day but in time for the weekend and still the Thanksgiving season.

Americans are today celebrating Thanksgiving and I thought that I would too. I watch how we have managed to import many of their cultural habits with music, dress and bling bling. Recently I’ve seen the increase in significance of Halloween here. Wow!

This cultural penetration can stick really deep, yet the one thing that is most admirable in their celebrations is ignored here, Thanksgiving. Even with the lost of its Christian roots, it is still very good to see the importance with which families value reunions and the opportunity to give thanks. I embrace this chance to give thanks too.

The Culture We Need

Thanksgiving brings families near

Hustling to be together to share

Embraces and meals but mostly

Coming together to express freely

Uttermost thanks to God above

Lots of thanks with lots of love

This example should be copied by other countries

USA set a standard that should get lots of facsimiles

Reproductions of people who every year

Eagerly rush home cause their family will be there

With gifts they will show up, with prayers and wishes

Every pumpkin pudding, baked turkey and the casserole
dishes

Nations will be well served to take a bite from this
plate

Every country willing to imitate

Emulate the family first attitude and harmonious living

Do this and the whole world can be celebrating this
Thanksgiving
